SOCIAL WELFARE SERVICES
Social Welfare and Community Services
The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) is committed to cater social welfare assistance, social works and development services to the community. The municipality undertakes its course to meet the needs and demands of the people and to uplift the living condition of the less privileged members of the society by designing different developmental programs and social activities.
Some of the programs implemented by the municipality are the Community Welfare Program, Child and Youth Welfare Program, Emergency Assistance Program, Women Welfare Program, Family Welfare Program, and Disabled and Special Group Welfare Program.
Community Welfare Program
This is intended to assist socially-disadvantaged groups in developing their capabilities in defining needs and formulating solutions as well as setting applicable community structures to bring about desired social changes. It renders services in welfare structures, community mobilization and community volunteer development.
Child and Youth Welfare Program
This refers to services and activities designed for the care, protection and rehabilitation of children and youth in difficult situation to ensure their social adjustment, total growth and development. This program offers services like supplemental feeding, day care and after care services, peer group counseling, child placement, special services for delinquent youth, youth offenders, protective services and self-employment assistance.
Emergency Assistance Program
This is intended to provide relief, restoration and rehabilitation services to victims of natural calamities and social disorganization as well as in the preparation of people and communities to cope with disasters to prevent further loss of lives and properties. Some of the services it provides are disaster relief, assistance to individual and families in crisis situation, emergency shelter, food for work and disaster preparedness programs.
Women Welfare Program
This aims to promote the welfare of the disadvantaged women, giving special attention to the prevention and eradication of exploitation of women in any form including prostitution, illegal recruitment and battering. The services under this program are social communication and skills development, maternal and childcare, livelihood program, self-employment, community participation, counseling and substitute home care.
Family Welfare Program
This is intended to assist socially disadvantaged families to develop their capability in defining needs and formulating solutions to bring about desired social changes. Its services revolves around parent effectiveness, planned/responsible parenthood, family enterprise, social services for single parents, marriage counseling, family casework, practical skills and development including job placement and referrals.
Disabled and Special Group Welfare Program
This refers to the provision of services on disability prevention, rehabilitation and equalization of opportunities for physically, mentally and socially disabled persons in order to enhance their capability to attain meaningful, productive and satisfying way of life as contributing members of society. Services under this program include prevention, social and self-enhancement of special children, practical skills development, family care, substitute family care, after care and follow-up.
